The Crow – Raven, rook, magpie, jackdaw and crow are all part of the same family. The Crow has strong legs, a powerful beak, and spends most of its time as a forager, feeding on grains, roots, fruits, nuts, carrion, insects, and small animals. Crow is a community-based bird that is almost always seen in flocks or groups. They are intelligent and communicate with a variety of caws. When looking closely at Crow you can see all the colors reflected in its feathers. Crow teaches us that black night gives birth to new day and to learn from your past. Crow People are also community based – they don’t like being alone and enjoy the safety and security in numbers. They are tactful, restless, good-natured, artistic, talkative, trustworthy, loyal, easy-going, wary/suspicious, have a hard time making decisions, and can manifest desires and dreams into physical realities. They are always gathering food for thought, are full of energy, can appreciate beauty in all things, and must watch for new opportunities and the magic in their lives. Crows need to develop their voice, personal integrity and will to bring changes that are desired. They need to change their thoughts to change their future. Crow People have two distinct sides – one is cheerful, gregarious and fun and the other is moody, morose, stubborn, quarrelsome and annoying. Crow People are full of energy and become workaholics. When they do take a break they find it hard to get started again as they have become lethargic and lazy. However, once the battery is recharged they’re off and running again. New experiences and things attract Crow People. They desire balance but have a hard time finding it. Crow People also seek justice and get upset when justice is not served. Crows are earthbound but have spiritual interest that will carry them to great heights. They enjoy and want a nice, secure home life. They are tidy, efficient, organized and non-confrontational. Crow children are beautiful and well-behaved, but they need encouragement when making choices. They are afraid of doing the wrong thing or making a mistake. As an adult this indecision is due more to cautiousness and a desire to please everyone. They are dreamers and romantics who are in love with love. Charming, considerate, thoughtful, affectionate, seductive, tender Crows are gentle lovers, often with an excessive sexual appetite. Positive traits: Idealistic, diplomatic, romantic, easy-going, friendly, co-operative Negative traits: Indecisive, resentful, frivolous, gullible Vocations: Arts and entertainment, antiques, aviation, architecture, banking, engineering, mechanics, military, politics, real estate, finances. Aims, desires and challenges. Crow People need to find the balance, harmony and beauty in all things. When they find their point of balance they will make wise decisions and judgments. They need to be independent and be their own individual, learning to rely on themselves instead of others. Crow People need to take personal responsibility for themselves and all their decisions, to implement their own will. Crows must learn to cultivate decisiveness, constancy, impartiality, gracefulness, inspiration and their artistic nature. They must avoid indecision, dependence, deceitfulness, and inconsistency. Season of the Crow - Autumn. Autumn is the time for ideas and enthusiasm, of shedding the old for the new. The art of timing and the need to apply the warmth of emotion to cold intellect are the lessons to be learned. Remember that impatience leads to frustration. It is a time for the harvest and abundance. Direction of the Crow - West. The western wind influences this totem and its attributes are adaptability, power and strength, introspection, selflessness and intensity. Western Totem Animal – Grizzly Bear. The lessons of the bear are to use strength with gentleness, be self-reliant and listen to your inner voice and see the cycles of life. Bear is busy in the fall preparing for hibernation. He is concerned with reaching his goals. He can see into his own as well as others’ hearts to see the truth and beauty that lies there. He has the selflessness of idealism, the wisdom of introspection and strength of spirit. He tells you to search within yourself for all the answers to your hopes and aspirations and to use meditation to attain stability and peace. Polarity Totem Animal – Falcon. Crows needs to attain Falcon’s foresight, fearlessness and driving energy. Once they have gained these attributes they will become more balanced and decisive. Falcon takes responsibility and sees the big picture. They are also aware of signs, omens and messages from Spirit. Falcons grab opportunities that come their way. Crows need to circle over their life and examine it from a higher perspective and discern any hazards that will bar you from flying freely. Clan Totem – Butterfly. Butterfly and crow are similar in that they flit from place to place with their restlessness and insatiable curiosity. Theirs is a journey of exploration and discovery. They like to help others with ideas and provide the fresh energy and revitalization necessary to many projects. Butterflies are full of positive energy and enjoy the journey of life and the “now”. Adapting and transforming to overcome problems and difficulties, butterfly views things with a wide perspective. It leaves behind the old concepts and attitudes, uses its courage to fly into new situations and accept change. Butterfly enjoys freedom and uses its mental powers for clarity of mind and spirit. Element of Crow – Air. Air is speech or breath, scent and smell. A person born under the influence of Air is someone who is instinctively driven by a more passive and calming energy flow and will not be able to nor want to sustain authority over others as they are far too easygoing. They need space, a certain amount of freedom and although they love to be with others, they are more than capable of doing their own thing. Mineral Totem – Azurite. Azurite encourages psychic and intuitive development, stimulates and cleanses the third eye, brings understanding, new perspectives, stimulates the memory, releases old/outdated beliefs, relieves stress, worry, grief, sadness, fears, phobias, and nervousness. In healing it eases throat problems, arthritis, joint problems, blockages to brain, aligns spine, aids kidneys, gallbladder, liver, spleen, thyroid, bones, teeth, skin and detoxifies. Plant Totem – Ivy. Ivy is tenacious and ripens in winter when food is most scarce. It is an evergreen token of rebirth and regeneration. Ivy reminds us to stretch out, build upon the past, balance the old and new, as well as bring good luck and good health.
