Falcons were often trained to scout for hunters and warriors - circling, soaring, and spreading their wings as they rode the air currents in their expeditions. Falcons fly at high speeds, swoop, and look spectacular in flight. They are highly observant of all that goes on around them. They will lay eggs on ledges or in old nests of other birds. They feed on insects, grasshoppers, and beetles. Falcons can be fierce to their enemies and gentle to their family and friends. Falcon people are hunters of new ideas, experiences, places, and things to do. They want things now. These people can rise to great heights but often lack patience and persistence; they are good starters, but are easily distracted, often not finishing their projects or reaching their goals. They lack concentration, tire of what they have begun and move onto something more exciting that has caught their eye. They will push others into helping or starting up new ventures but leave when the going gets tough or they lose interest. Falcon people’s life purpose is to learn to balance energies by nurturing a situation and staying with it until completion. Falcon people have a higher perspective and can see all the details and new opportunities that come their way. They need to learn to resolve the kind of problems which repeatedly confront them – to search within for the answer and not elsewhere. Often the solution is found in the experience or challenge itself. They need to find alternative ways out of difficult situations. Falcon people can be affectionate, lovable, positive, extroverted, exuberant, enterprising, and energetic. On the negative side, they can be impulsive with hasty and poor judgment, demanding, impatient, insensitive, restless, and sometimes need encouragement. If optimistic and determined, they will help overcome any disappointment or failure. Falcons don’t like to be criticized and are very independent – they will go it alone if no one else agrees with them. Imaginative, enthusiastic, frank Falcons speak their minds, have a tendency to exaggerate and have sharp, often tactless tongues. When it comes to romance, Falcons are looking for the story-book life. They are possessive, jealous, charismatic, imaginative, flirtatious, and enjoy praise/flattery. They can be energetic and active lovers, often extroverted and the initiator of relations. Positive traits of Falcon: Pioneering, adventurous, enterprising, courageous, energetic, affable Negative traits: Selfish, egotistical, impulsive, inpatient, quick tempered, ostentatious Vocations: Arts & entertainment, adventuring, dentistry, electronics, engineering, firefighting, hair dressing, jewelry making, journalism, military, sports, surgery. Aims, desires and challenges. Falcons need to gain knowledge through experiences. They are highly independent and enjoy their individuality but need to work as a team and learn to share. While they have an enthusiastic and driving force that inspires others, Falcons need to balance their energy in order to have enough for the long haul. They need to seek out other ways to solve problems - stop pounding their heads on the wall and instead walk around it! Falcons would do well to develop spiritual ideals and principles to help with life challenges. They need to use their enthusiasm, imagination, and creativity to develop ideas as well as to manifest them. Falcon people need to learn what is of value and to throw away what no longer serves them or that is worthless. They need to accept responsibility of self as well as for others. Season of the Falcon – Spring. Spring is the time of awakening, new life, growth, rebirth, ideas, and manifestation. Like the seed that is planted and needs watering and nurturing from the Earth, people of this time need the socialization, affection, and assistance of others. Direction of the Falcon - East. Falcon people’s spiritual path is one of strength and intellectual growth. They need to learn to share with others and communicate more clearly. They can turn dreams into practical realities with persistence and determination. They need to look before leaping, considering the long-term consequences of their actions. They need to learn to see the details as well as the overall picture. Recognizing their opportunities to soar above challenges may be a spiritual test Animal Totem of the East – Eagle. The Eagle represents “Spirit”. It can see great distances and recognizes the connection and balance between Spirit and Earth. They see that a state of grace can be achieved through hard work, understanding, and completion of tests to claim their personal power. The highs and lows of life are the trials that earn Eagle’s medicine. Learn to identify opportunities, attack any fears of the unknown. Feed the body but more importantly feed the soul. Polarity Totem Animal – Crow. The Crow is a forager who gathers food for thought. Crow people are comfortable both in the air and on Earth. They are communal people and will loyally defend their loved ones, friends, projects or ideas. They hover at the point of balance which causes indecisiveness but they can truly appreciate the qualities and advantages of whatever choices confront them. Learn to be more like Crow – be more adaptable and try to service others. Clan Totem – Hawk. The Hawk is the messenger of Spirit. It represents healing, new trails, life, intuition, and sudden change. Hawk is the totem for revolutionary thinkers, inspirers, leaders, fire starters, or pioneers. Don’t look to others for insight when faced with important decisions – use intuition to solve the problem. Don’t become too intense or detail-oriented, it will lead to burnout. Falcons need to learn to pace themselves like the Hawk. The Hawk is filled with quiet awe, love, and can see through or above any obstacle. They can obtain balance and insight. Falcons need to follow their heart, and be aware of signs, omens, or messages from the Spirit. Element of Falcon – Fire. Fire purifies as it burns and destroys the old so that the new may emerge. It is transmutation and regeneration. A person born under the influence of Fire is someone who is instinctively driven by passion and emotion, sometimes to the point where they cannot stop intense moments of uncontrollable passion. To expect them to behave differently would be like trying to stem the flow of an erupting volcano. Fire people can harness their energy in positive ways by applying it to creative and challenging situations and inspiring others to action. They are often their own worst enemies as they are self-critical to the point of damage and needs approval, understanding, and positive attention from those around them. Mineral Totem – Opal. The Opal helps with pressure, emotional stress; amplifies traits, creativity, truthful actions; strengthens memory, faithfulness, loyalty, personal potentials; helps to open psychic and mystical qualities, intuition, vitality, and visions. Suggested healing properties: helps treat infections, cleanses blood and kidneys, regulates insulin production, aids with vision/eye disorders, fevers, Parkinson’s disease, as well as stimulates the circulatory system. Plant Totem – Dandelion. An alternate name for Dandelion is Lion’s Tooth. Dandelion seeds are easily blown from place to place. Dandelion people jump from idea to idea – leaping without looking. Dandelion can take root anywhere and digs in deep. It can be used as a tonic, cleanser, or a stimulant. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, helps to balance blood sugar, and aids skin diseases such as eczema or acne. Dandelion’s lesson is to find beauty in unseen places and to see beyond the surface. Dandelion stands for divination or wishes. As a tea, it enhances psychic powers. To send a message to a loved one, blow its seeds in their direction and visualize the message you want them to receive. If you bury Dandelion in the northwest corner of the house it will bring favorable winds. Affinity Color of the Falcon – Yellow (Growth and balance)/Green (Balance) Path to self-realization is through gratitude and contentment. Primary spiritual goal is creativity, individualism, harmony, serenity, and peace. Positive traits: focus, inspiration, inventiveness, strength, courage, individuality, temperance, balance, equilibrium, generosity, willingness, and empathy Negative traits: pride, rebellion, alienation, shame, humiliation, greed, control, austerity, indolence, gluttony, and cowardice If you’ve enjoyed this nature’s wisdom profile about you and your life we recommend you read Kenneth Meadow’s “Earth Medicine” and Ted Andrew’s “Animal-Speak” and his other Nature series books to get an even more thorough review of yourself, your totem or spirit animals, and those totems of people around you.
