The Owl – Owls have soft feathers, short tails, large heads, flattened faces with enormous eyes and somewhat hidden beaks. Owl sees in darkness, flies in silence, has tremendous hearing and uses all its heightened senses in hunting. They live alone or in pairs, roost in hollow trees, church towers or farm buildings and feeds mostly on small rodents. People who have Owl as their totem are proud, flamboyant, observant, detail oriented, have developed their intuition and inner senses, and can discern motivations and intentions of others. They need to look into their own dark side and come to terms with it. In ancient times, the owl was associated with wisdom and likewise Owl people are seen as intelligent and are often clairvoyant. They can see deception in others, and trust their instincts and silent impressions. They pay attention to their dreams and fears which bring perspective on things and people in their life. Owl People are warm-hearted, jovial, fun-loving, independent, adventurous, individualistic, sincere, bold, frank, and can be sarcastic when hurt. This totem enjoys nature and the outdoors. They need and enjoy their freedom, whether that is freedom of the mind, expression with no limitations or responsibilities – they don’t want to be burdened. Speaking their mind and saying how they feel is no problem for this totem. Owl People have various interests and they are often a jack of all trades and master of none. They enjoy lengthy discussions and debates. Courageous to the point of recklessness, these people enjoy the risks and danger of activities just for the exhilaration. They are extremely confident of their abilities but they need to focus and set goals. They often get carried away by their exuberance and greed.
Young Owls crave company, are happy go-lucky and
love fun. They enjoy the company of others and excel in team games or sports.
They are extremely curious and enjoy learning. As they mature, they get bored
with routines and need variety and change. Adult Owl People make devoted parents
and friends. They are romantic, flirtatious, and enjoy the start of romance but

They must determine their own choices and accept the consequences while at the same time thinking and acting positively for the good of all. Season of the Owl – Autumn. Autumn is the time for ideas and enthusiasm, of shedding the old for the new. The art of timing and the need to apply the warmth of emotion to cold intellect are the lessons to be learned. The western wind influences this totem and its attributes are adaptability, power and strength, introspection, selflessness and intensity. Western Totem Animal – Grizzly Bear. The lessons of the bear are to use strength with gentleness, be self-reliant and listen to your inner voice and see the cycles of life. Bear is busy in the fall preparing for hibernation. He is concerned with reaching his goals. He can see into his own as well as others’ hearts to see the truth and beauty that lies there. They can harness their energy in positive ways by applying it to creative and challenging situations and inspiring others to action. They are often their own worst enemies as they are self-critical to the point of damage and needs approval, understanding and positive attention from those around them. Mineral Totem – Obsidian.
